The stand definitely adds to the appeal of these enclosures. Not overly tall like others and the fact you can stack and have storage is another great feature.

Stacking Spacer Review

I bought a stacking spacer for my snake’s enclosure to hopefully help keep the heat from escaping when it gets cold and to help tidy things up more. It has done a great job at both. There is more than enough height for large dome lamps and plenty of space to stash extra supplies. It helps to retain a lot of heat as well. The area inside gets pretty warm, which works for me.

I didn’t see any specific instructions for the spacer, but it assembles the same way the enclosures do. I had to guess which order the parts for the door handles go, however.

Overall, it seems sturdy and makes the enclosure look nicer than before.

Strong, stable enclosures with a lovely finished look

I’ve tried out several different enclosure builders and these have been the sturdiest and most beautiful enclosures I’ve had the pleasure of using. I couldn’t resist when I saw the front face covers. The pop of color is lovely and it gives my enclosures such a purposeful, finished look. The base gives the perfect height to maintain functionality, a convenient bit of storage to help me keep things neater, and a stable, perfectly sized support for my larger enclosures or stacks. I can’t wait to upgrade the rest of my room and work with them as my collection grows. I’m excited to see what they’ll put out next, cause my needs are growing and it seems Apex Reptile and their product line are as well. Also, Michelle was super helpful with all of my questions. They’re a small team with a rapidly growing business, but she’s made time to make sure I get the most out of their products.

Most furniture isn’t deep or strong enough for large habitats — this base is purpose-built for them, providing both stability and a cohesive, display-ready look.

What’s the benefit of a reptile enclosure spacer/hood?

For reptile enclosures with screen tops, the spacer creates an 11.5″ air gap so you can place heat and UVB fixtures above the habitat on top of the screen, but keep all the fixtures hidden for a clean, professional finish.

With solid tops, it helps manage temperature between stacked units and prevents heat transfer — ideal for multi-species setups or display walls.

Can I use the hood with solid-top enclosures?

Yes — the hood works with both solid-top and screen-top Apex Reptile enclosures.

Will the hood affect the UVB or heat reaching my reptile?

No, the hood has a pass-through bottom which fits snuggly over an Apex Reptile screen top without blocking any of the screen. (Did you know our screen top material allows 80% pass through for UVB? Many mesh screens found on “cost effective” reptile enclosures can actually block most of the UVB.)

Can I stack multiple enclosures using a hood?

Absolutely! The hood is designed for stacking, so you can place the next enclosure right on top of it. Always use your keeper judgement when stacking and assess your set-ups regularly to make sure they’re stable!

Are the base and hood materials the same as the enclosures?

Yes — both are crafted from the same high-quality PVC used in Apex Reptile enclosures. That means waterproof, durable, and easy to clean surfaces that match your setup perfectly.

Is Black the only color available?

To keep costs optimal, the storage bases and hoods are available in black PVC only, but you can customize the front face color or cover the seams with an Apex Reptile Front Face Cover.
